Pope Francis was released from Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Friday nine days following undergoing abdominal surgery. The Catholic Church leader left the hospital early in the morning in a wheelchair and greeted the patients and journalists who were waiting for him. All appointments of the Pope are still canceled until June 18th.

Francis had undergone a three-hour operation on June 7 at the Gemelli Clinic. The cause was a hernia. According to the operating doctor Sergio Alfieri, the operation under general anesthesia went without complications. Francis had already undergone intestinal surgery in July 2021.

Pope Francis visited children with cancer at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Thursday. Three photos showed Francis in a wheelchair in the infirmary, which, like his private hospital apartment, is on the tenth floor of the Gemelli Clinic. At the same time, the Pope welcomed the heads of the hospital.
