Pope Francis Discusses Wars, EU Expansion, and Internal Situation with Bosnian Representative

Pope Francis received the Social Democrat Denis Bećirović, Bosnian representative in the State Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for around 25 minutes of conversation in the Vatican. Bećirović also met Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and the Holy See’s foreign affairs representative, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher. The Vatican subsequently announced that the internal situation had been discussed. It was also regarding wars around the world and the EU expansion for Balkan countries.

The participants in the meetings also discussed the international situation, “including the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Holy Land, the expansion of the European Union to include the countries of the Western Balkans and the progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Europe “were the focus”.
