The occasion is the singer’s 50th stage anniversary, as announced by Deutsche Post, which presented the designs today in Bonn. Kaiser is the first pop star in Germany to be honored with his own stamps.
“As a former telegram messenger in my younger years, I would never have believed that I would be granted the great honor of receiving my own special stamp from Deutsche Post on the occasion of my 50th stage anniversary,” explained the singer. “I am already looking forward to the day when I will hold a letter with my own stamp in my hand for the first time.” The Kaiser stamps each have a postage value of 100 cents – this can be used, for example, to frank compact letters within Germany.
The stamps feature the names of four of Roland Kaiser’s big hits: “Santa Maria”, “Why didn’t you say no?”, “Love can save us” and “To love you”. They also feature the pop legend’s signature. What might hurt some fans is that Kaiser’s portrait cannot be seen. There is a reason for that. In Germany, no living people may be depicted on official stamps. The only exceptions are for the Federal President and the Pope.
The stamps are limited to 500,000 pieces and can be ordered online or by phone from July 13, according to the post office. In addition, there will be a special “Kaiser post office branch” at a Kaiser concert in Cologne on Saturday (July 13) where they can be purchased.
