Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The former home of rock legend Freddie Mercury in the British capital, London, is now available for purchase, and the relevant category is the people in possession of an amount of 30 million pounds sterling ($38 million).
The Garden Lodge in Kensington, west London, was home to the Queen’s bandleader for 11 years and features a Japanese sitting room, double-height drawing room, bar/library and music space.
As soon as Mercury laid eyes on the property when he first visited it in 1980, he immediately bought it, according to Knight Frank, the company handling the sale.
In collaboration with specialist interior architect and designer Robin Moore Eddy, Mercury renovated the house over the next decade, using the finest materials and his personal design flair to create what he called “his own country house in central London,” Knight Frank reported in a press release published Monday.

The statement added that the Queen singer designed his home to be “an attractive and memorable place that reflects his vibrant personality and eclectic vision.”
In this spirit, the dining room is painted yellow, Mercury’s favorite color, with a complementary jewel decoration that can be seen in the room’s cornices.
The drawing room was home to the grand piano that Mercury used to compose “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and overlooked the property’s garden decorated with large magnolia trees and “Eastern-inspired” water fountains.
The property’s master suite can be entered through what was once Mercury’s dressing room, where he stored his clothes and stage costumes. Mirrors cover the room from floor to ceiling.

Upon his death in 1991, Mercury left the estate and all of his possessions to his close friend Mary Austin.
After more than 30 years of caring for it, Austin, now 72, auctioned off around 1,400 pieces of Mercury’s possessions last year, and is now looking to sell his Garden Lodge home for offers in excess of £30 million ($38 million). According to Knight Frank.
“This house was the most amazing memory box, because there was so much love and warmth in every room,” Austin said in a press release.
“It was a pleasure to live in, and I have so many wonderful memories here. Now that it’s empty, I’m back to the first moment we saw it,” she continued.
She added: “As soon as Freddie and I stepped inside the legendary green door, it became a place of peace, the home of a true artist, and now it is time to hand that feeling of peace on to the next person.”
