Poor quality than average – ICC against Chinnaswamy pitch

After a while, the pitch at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru became controversial once more. After the India-Sri Lanka Test match which ended last week, the ICC team inspected the pitch and gave the pitch in Bangalore a lower than average level.

The second Test, which started on March 12, ended in three days. Sri Lanka lost the match by 238 runs.

‘The pitch had given an unusually good turn on the very first day of the match. It’s coming together following each session. Therefore, what happened there cannot be considered as a match between bat and ball ‘- match referee Jagwal Srinath told ICC.

Chinnaswamy’s pitch was given an ICC de Merit point due to poor quality, which is likely to reduce the chances of international matches at the stadium. In 2018, the ICC awarded such a de-merit point to the Bengaluru Stadium. The term of a de-merit point is five years. Five D Merit points will result in a one-year ban from hosting international competitions.

Chinnaswamy is the home ground of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.
