Harapan Bangsa Stadium in Banda Aceh has been filled with contingents and the public ahead of the opening ceremony of the 21st Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) 2024 which is scheduled to be held there on Monday (9/9) evening.
According to monitoring at the location at 15.30 WIB, the contingent and the public flooded Harapan Bangsa Stadium through the back door which was designated as an entry point for their arrival.
One by one, the contingent groups were seen arriving at the stadium area, including the Aceh, South Papua, DKI Jakarta, Bali, Riau Islands, and West Sumatra contingents. Traffic was also seen to be busy around the Harapan Bangsa Stadium area,
one of them is on Jalan Dr Mr Muhammad Hasan.
Traffic there was packed with vehicles from the contingent, committee, and the public who were enthusiastic about watching the opening of the national multi-sport event.
In order to anticipate vehicle congestion around Harapan Bangsa Stadium, police officers are on standby to regulate traffic flow around the stadium entrance.
PON 2024 marks the first time the national multi-event sports event will be held in two provinces simultaneously, namely Aceh and North Sumatra.
A total of 65 sports, 87 disciplines, and 1,042 match numbers were held in 20 districts/cities in Aceh and North Sumatra in the competition which also served as a stage to showcase the results of regional sports achievement development.
Four new autonomous regions (DOB), namely Southwest Papua, Papua Mountains, Central Papua, and South Papua, made their debut at PON, which was also attended by the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) contingent. At least 13,000 athletes competed to be the best until the closing ceremony of the national sports festival scheduled to take place on September 20, 2024. (Z-6)
