Pollock’s home run breaks up the no-hitter; sailors triumph

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — AJ Pollock homered to stop a combined no-hitter attempt with one out in the eighth inning, and the Seattle Mariners rallied to beat Seattle Mariners 2-1 Tuesday night. Oakland Athletics

Jarred Kelenic added an RBI double to give Seattle the lead.

On a night when both teams went hitless through the first five acts, only 2,583 spectators turned out at the Coliseum. Mason Miller pitched seven hitless innings in his third major league start for Oakland.

He left the mound following 100 pitches. The 24-year-old right-hander, who made his debut on April 19, struck out six and walked four.

Richard Lovelady (0-1) took over in the eighth with a 1-0 lead, but suffered his first loss with the A’s.

Gabe Speier (1-0) struck out the only batter in front of him for his first major league win. Paul Sewald dished out a pair of strikeouts in the perfect ninth inning, and has capitalized on all eight of his save chances.

For the Mariners, the Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez 4-0. The Dominican Teoscar Hernández 4-0. Panamanian José Caballero 3-1 with a run scored.

For the Athletics, the Dominicans Esteury Ruiz 4-1 with an RBI, Ramón Laureano 4-0.
