Poll shows Kamala Harris winning two new key states

A poll released by the New York Times on August 17 shows that Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are leading a tight race in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina. Key states that the Republican seemed on track to win before Joe Biden withdrew.

“Swing states”, or kingmaker states. Highly scrutinized and surveyed during American election campaigns, they alternately give the majority of their votes to the Democratic or Republican candidate.

And according to a new opinion poll published on August 17 by the New York Times and Siena College, Kamala Harris continues the Democratic rise in the polls since Joe Biden’s withdrawal, and is competing with Donald Trump in the “swing states” surveyed.

Results within margin of error

Kamala Harris would be ahead in the key state of Arizona (50% against 45% for Donald Trump). In North Carolina, a state won by Donald Trump in the 2020 election, she is even given ahead of the Republican candidate (49% against 47% of the vote).

She also got closer to her opponent in Georgia (46% against 50%) and in Nevada (47% against 48%). However, if in these 3 states, the estimates are within the margin of error (4.4% for Nevada and Georgia, 4.2% in North Carolina), Kamala Harris largely improves the voting intentions, compared to Joe Biden.

Last week, the same poll in the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, three important states in the “Midwest”, showed that she had slightly overtaken Donald Trump there. With 50% of voting intentions against 46%. Estimates there also included within the margin of error.

Last May, a New York Times poll showed the incumbent Democratic president losing heavily to Donald Trump in five out of six swing states. After his failed debate in early July, in a national surveyJoe Biden was even 8 points behind registered voters (41% against 49% for Donald Trump).

Voters in Pennsylvania are in demand

Pennsylvania is the object of all desires. With 20 electors, it is the state that allowed Joe Biden to reach the threshold of 270 in 2020, synonymous with victory. Out of 7 million voters, the Democrat won with less than 81,000 votes ahead.

This weekend, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are campaigning there. The former president, who was the victim of an assassination attempt in this key state in July, is holding a rally there on August 17 in a small town in the east. His rival is boarding a bus on August 18 to travel through several counties in the west of the state.

Kamala Harris will then travel to Chicago on August 19 to celebrate her inauguration at her party’s major rally.
