Poll: Over 60% of Japanese people are dissatisfied with the government’s measures to curb prices

According to the results of a poll released by Kyodo News on the 13th, regarding 64% of the respondents believed that the measures taken by the Japanese government to deal with rising prices were insufficient.

Kyodo News launched a three-day telephone survey nationwide on the 11th. The poll results show that 64.1% of the respondents are dissatisfied with the government’s measures to stabilize prices, and only 28.1% of the respondents are satisfied.

Haruhiko Kuroda, governor of the Bank of Japan, made a blunder in a speech last week, saying that Japanese consumers were “increasingly tolerant of price hikes,” sparking criticism. According to the survey, 77.3% of respondents thought Kuroda’s remarks were “inappropriate”.

In terms of the impact of rising prices, 77.3% of the respondents said that the increase in the price of food and other daily necessities had a different degree of impact on their lives, and 71.1% of the respondents said they would consider this issue when voting in the Senate election.

The opposition Cadet Party earlier this month called Japan’s current inflation “Kishida inflation” and criticized Kishida’s cabinet for being “inaction” in the face of rising prices.
