Have you ever wondered how to properly hold a controller? It would seem, what is there to think regarding, it’s quite obvious – you take it in your hands and everything is ergonomically lined up. Thumbs on sticks, index fingers on triggers. Unless there is a special type of gamer – Dark Souls fans, who use a claw-type girth, thanks to which you can dodge and attack with minimal delay, especially during boss fights.
However, if we believe the recent ResetEra according to a survey, approximately 10% of gamers “correctly” hold the controller – the correct one means the simultaneous use of the index and middle fingers. In this case, the index fingers are on the bumpers, and the middle fingers are on the triggers. According to the author of the survey, this is the right way to use a controller, as it allows two actions to be used at the same time.
But the vast majority, 90% of those surveyed, prefer the good old method, when the index finger is responsible for the bumper and trigger. Which is obvious, because it is customary to press the trigger with the index finger, not to mention that in the case of some controllers, like the Xbox Elite, you can use the petals with the help of the middle and ring fingers, which makes the position on top pointless. Especially since you can remap actions so that bumpers are used for specific actions, like activating certain abilities that are not compatible with attacking.
Ultimately, there is no way to tell exactly how to properly hold the controller. Everyone does it the way they want.
