In Haut-Katanga, the choice of the governor candidate within the Sacred Union poses enormous difficulties for the government platform. The executives would be far from agreeing, and the trend currently would be working for a strong resurgence in this part of the country.
According to information collected by our editorial staff, three government candidates had presented themselves to be governor, Jacques Kyabula, Jean de Dieu Mulenda and Martin Kazembe. In his communication on March 10 to his faithful, the general secretary of the UDPS revealed that he had prevented the passage of Mulenda, noting the impact of his Kasaïan side on social life in this part of the country.
“We had two Katangais and one Kasaien. I said to myself if this kasaien passes we will say that Kabuya did… He withdrew in favor of Kabuya, what is my problem?”, he said?
Kabuya stokes the devouring fire
Augustin Kabuya subsequently asked his Kasai brothers born in Katanga to stay away from the political sphere. “This is why I say to my Kasai brothers who are in Katanga, you were born there but you are not Katangais, let them do their business. As you say that you are Katangais, bring me a photo where you are in a Katangais meeting,” he told the crowd.
By putting such reasoning in the public place, Augustin Kabuya would then share the vision of all the extremist Katangese who do not want to see the Kasai man in their home. For political analysts, this statement proves how divided the country is, but also how much the country’s authorities are more attached to their origins instead of the motherland.
