Politico spoke about the impending abolition of the federal right to abortion in the United States

The US Supreme Court will overturn a 50-year-old court decision on the unconditional right of the country’s inhabitants to have abortions. This follows from the draft decision, caught to Politico magazine. The document says that the issue of abortion should be decided by the people’s deputies: technically, this will mean that the decision will be transferred to the level of state parliaments.

In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court made a landmark decision in Roe v. Wade, which stated that women have a constitutional right to abortion. According to Politico, all five of the nine conservative Supreme Court justices have ruled that the issue is not protected by the Constitution.

In October, the non-governmental organization Gutmacher Institute, which advocates for the right to abortion, calculatedthat if the issue of their bans returns to the state level, abortion might become illegal in 26 of the 50 US states.

The issue of the abolition of abortion is one of the most polarizing in American society, the decision of the court is sure to cause large-scale protests. This is also indicated by the leak of the draft decision of the Supreme Court: Politico notes that it happened for the first time in history.
