An aid package in the amount of one million euros for the social markets was discussed yesterday as an application by the SPÖ in the country’s social committee: the markets for people with lower incomes would have to supply more and more customers in view of the surge in prices, the help decided at the end of last year was too little.
This is currently not an issue for the ÖVP and FPÖ, and the application was rejected. “The social markets are doing a great job. But there is a comprehensive package totaling 800,000 euros (shared between the country and the company, note) that was only decided at the end of the year. That has to be evaluated first. And none of us knows what it will look like in nine months,” says committee chairwoman Elisabeth Manhal (ÖVP). “Therefore this application is not needed now.”
The social department is in constant contact with the social markets, it says from there. For the time being, the measures that the state is taking together with companies are seen as sufficient.
