Esa Unggul University political communication observer Jamiluddin Ritonga views the meeting between Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Saturday (21/9/2024) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, as apparently to smooth the transition of power from Jokowi to Prabowo Subianto.

“Both Jokowi and SBY have the same interest in ensuring that Prabowo-Gibran are inaugurated on October 20, 2024. This is because Jokowi and SBY fully support the Prabowo-Gibran pair,” said Jamiluddin, Sunday (22/9/2024).

Therefore, according to him, Jokowi and SBY will jointly maintain political conduciveness so that the transition of power can run smoothly on October 20, 2024.

He said SBY, as a statesman, wanted the transition of power to run smoothly like in a democratic country. That, Jamiluddin explained, had been demonstrated when SBY was going to hand over power to Jokowi in 2014.

According to him, SBY is following the tradition of ensuring there is no tension during the transition of power.

“To that end, SBY seems to have deliberately met and invited Jokowi so that the transition of power that he pioneered in 2014 can be implemented on October 20, 2024. That way, the transition of power is truly implemented in a peaceful and joyful atmosphere,” said Jamiluddin. (H-3)
