Political figures from various walks of life slammed French President Emmanuel Macron in reaction to his Monday night televised speech, which they called “empty” and “disconnected”, as unions and oppositions expected announcements strong, especially a withdrawal or suspension of the highly controversial pension reform.

The president of the Republicans (LR), Éric Ciotti, considered that the head of state “gives the feeling that he is beginning his mandate when he has been elected for six years as head of state”.

“I welcome with skepticism this catalog of pious wishes, certainly commendable, but very imprecise!”, he quipped on Twitter, adding that “with this #20H speech by the President of the Republic, nothing really new, nothing concrete in a catalog of wishful thinking”.

For his part, Aurélien Pradié, elected LR wondered: “how to ignore the country that we preside at this point?”.

“The life of the French is a parallel reality”, advanced the elected official on his Twitter account, adding that “this evening, he had nothing to say to them. The crisis is deep. The only remedy will be a political and democratic surge. Of scale”.

“The presidential election was in 2022. Why propose a new presidential program a year late, and with crocodile tears?” asks Hervé Marseille, president of the Solidarity Party group, of Europe, territories and ecology (UDI) in the Senate, in a statement to Point.

“This disconnected, solitary and obtuse practice of power announces the continuation of a five-year term of contempt, indifference and brutality from which we will have to get out of the ballot box”, insisted Marine Le Pen, president of the National Rally (RN) group at The national assembly.

By announcing the withdrawal of the pension reform or the referendum, Emmanuel Macron might have re-established the link with the French this evening. He once more chose to turn his back on them and ignore their suffering, she added on her Twitter account, adding that Emmanuel Macron, “still stuck in a parallel world, did not have a word on inflation which is suffocating the French and on their collapsing purchasing power”.

On the left, Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF) estimated that Mr. Macron “was the president of the rich, he becomes authoritarian president of an impoverished France”. “We will continue to fight,” he said on France 2.

Jérôme Guedj, Socialist MP (PS) regretted, in turn, that the President of the Republic did “no mea culpa on the method”. “I feel like I’m watching the movie The Neverending Story,” he said.

“Suddenly, who knows why, the intervention of the President of the Republic made me want to immerse myself in this fascinating file (link to an article entitled: what is the void?)”, writes- it on Twitter.

The centrist senator Loïc Hervé deplored, for his part, “the absence of strong measures or symbols to end this period”. “We have a form of stringing pearls, a fairly conventional and classic discourse. No questioning, ”he said on the Public Senate channel.

During his first speech since the promulgation of the pension reform overnight from Friday to Saturday following the validation of the essentials of the text by the Constitutional Council, Emmanuel Macron defended “necessary changes”, while acknowledging that the text is not “accepted” by the French.

He gave himself “one hundred days” to launch a plan of “appeasement” and “action” by July 14, following the “anger” aroused by his reform, announcing that he wanted to build a “new pact of life at work” in the coming weeks and calling on employers and unions for a series of negotiations.

Thousands of people pounded the pavement, Monday evening, in several French cities, following the speech of the head of state, while calls were relayed on social networks to organize rallies and “casserolades” in front of the town halls of the country at the time of the President’s intervention.
