Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received, at the headquarters of the second presidency in Ain al-Tineh, the head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, and they discussed the general situation and the latest political developments, especially the presidential file, the issue of the displaced Syrians, and the municipal and elective elections.

After the meeting, Jumblatt spoke, saying: “At this delicate stage, constant consultation and its importance must be held with President Nabih Berri in an attempt to open the prospects for presidential elections. In addition to the presidential issue, there are side issues, but very important, including the municipal elections. If he gives The Constitutional Council will decide later, as the municipal elections are very important to open horizons for new blood to enter these elections.”

He added, “There is a sensitive issue under discussion, which is the issue of the Syrian refugee and the Syrian resident. There must be a central reference, and I understood from the President that the reference will be the government and the agency assigned by it is public security, and it is necessary that there be a single reference that deals with this matter in order to We do not enter into pursuits from here and there and auctions, and this file must be dealt with calmly and without fanaticism and outbids. There are forcibly displaced people and there are those who have not been displaced, and there are residents who have been for decades coming and going to Syria, but they are residents and the Lebanese economy, even in this suffocating crisis, depends on him”.

In response to a question regarding the issue of Syria’s return to the Arab League, Jumblatt replied: “It is sweet” means “the Arab establishment”, but Syria has returned, “the regime is not the case.”

Regarding the final position of the Progressive Socialist Party on the presidential file, he replied: “I may have a media appearance next week, to tell my boyfriend regarding it for next week.”

In response to a question regarding the position on the issue of the presidential elections following the Saudi ambassador’s tour of the Lebanese leaders, Jumblatt said: “The same words were confirmed by the Saudi ambassador, that the kingdom is at an equal distance from everyone, and it does not deal with Lebanese internal affairs, and there is no veto on any name.”

Jumblatt concluded: “I cannot take any position without consulting with the head of the Democratic Gathering. Taymour Jumblatt is the head of the meeting. On this sensitive issue, the future is for him, not for me, and there is no disagreement whatsoever between us.”
