“Of course it is the case that due to the events in Ukraine everything is taking effect too late,” said political advisor Thomas Hofer with regard to the timing of the convening of the Energy Crisis Cabinet. You can also discuss what went wrong in the run-up.
A symbolic solidarity
But what they wanted to do today was to symbolically show a kind of “close ranks”. They wanted to show that “the opposition, the federal states and the social partners are on board”. However, they would have perceived it very differently, says the political advisor in the newsroom LIVE.
“The famous drop in the ocean”
One tries desperately to show that “now the relief wave is rolling”. Political advisor Thomas Hofer believes that “in this respect it will be short-lived”. Because “whatever an Austrian federal government, with whatever composition, always comes across as the famous drop in the ocean,” says Hofer.
Due to the increasing pressure on the federal government, Chancellor Karl Nehammer is trying to “evoke the feeling that something is happening, that people are trying to counteract it”.
Nehammer replacement is “not on the horizon”
With regard to the transfer rumors regarding Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), it is already the case that “Nehammer is not doing well, that he needs a liberation”. However, it’s not like “seven people would point up and say we’d like to take over before this fall and winter.” There will be a certain reluctance. Such a person is neither in the ÖVP nor in other parties “just on the horizon”.
“I’m not sure whether a chairman who was 100 percent confirmed just a few weeks ago as federal party chairman should be sent right back into the desert,” says Hofer. In addition, one cannot assume that the Greens, as coalition partners, would simply accept a fee. “At some point the stove will be off,” said the political advisor.
