European Weightlifting Championships. Polish woman with silver!

On Monday, Polish women inaugurated this year’s European Championships in Sofia. It took place, among others: competition in duathlon. The silver medal was won by Oliwia Drzazga, for whom it was the first medal she won at a senior event. Our representative made quite a surprise.

The 19-year-old obtained result 170 (74+96) and slightly overtook the third place, Tham Nguyen from Ireland, who is of Vietnamese origin. The gold medal was won by Romanian Valentina Cambei, who gave no chance to her rivals.

According to the Polish Weightlifting Association, Drzazga broke as many as five Polish records! “In the snatch, 74 kg is a new Polish record for under-20s and under-23s, and in the doubles, 170 kg – for seniors, U23 and U20!” – we read on the federation’s official profile.

The championships in Sofia are the last chance for weightlifting representatives to qualify for the Olympics. However, our representatives do not have many chances to go to Paris. They are far in the IWF rankings, and only the 12 highest-ranked fighters from each weight category will advance.

Let us remind you that the Olympic Games in Paris will start on July 26. They will end on August 11. Thousands of athletes from all over the world will fight for medals.
