Thiruvananthapuram ∙ IGP Prakash’s investigation report that four policemen, including Changanassery DySP, have gang ties. The DGP ordered an investigation following finding that four policemen, including the DySP, were related to Arun Gopan, a regular criminal of Kottayam. Apart from the Changanassery DySP, a cyber cell CI and two civil policemen are being investigated.
The government will conduct a departmental inquiry into DySP’s gang ties. Pala ASP will investigate the gangster connection of the policemen. The connection with the police became clear when Arun Gopan was taken into custody in the case registered by the Kottayam West police in the honeytrap case.
When he was brought to the station, DySP Changanassery came to see him at night. DySP spoke angrily to Arun Gopan. Arungopan got hot once more. This was reported to the station’s Special Branch Officer, SP. SP report handed over to Zonal IG: P. Prakash. The gangster connection came to light during a secret investigation on the instructions of the IG.
Subsequently, the file was handed over to the DGP. It is being checked whether the DySP came to the station fearing that Arun Gopan would disclose the police-gang relationship.
