The funeral of Thomas Monjoie takes place this Friday morning in Waremme, in the province of Liège. The ceremony began at 11 a.m. at the Jean François funeral home, at number 140 rue des Prés, in Waremme. Around 10:30 a.m., the policeman’s family arrived at the scene. Many police were already present around the funeral home.

Before the start of the ceremony, a giant screen broadcast images of Thomas on a loop. During the ceremony, the sound is also transmitted outside but not the images. A guard of honor has gradually formed, but a lot of police are present. According to the first figures, they are more than 2,000. They all lined up along the sidewalk. We want to show that we are a family today, we are all together here to give everyone a sign that we are a family and that we have lost one of our own. We are together here to show that we are strong”tells us the main inspector Vincent of the police zone of Tongeren, in Flanders.

Police officers from Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels made the trip this Friday. “We are all here to show that we are together for Thomas, for his family, but also for the other police officers in the street who do this work. “It’s a profession that is in mourning”adds Fabrice Discry, permanent delegate for the National Union of Police and Security Personnel. “Our thoughts are with Thomas, his family, his loved ones… Today, it’s complicated, it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back. All our colleagues are there to support Thomas’ family. , support the profession.”

From the beginning of the ceremony, a minute of silence was observed in all the police stations of the country where the flags were also lowered.

In all the outpost barracks of Brussels also this minute of silence was respected. “A delegation of firefighters from Brussels is present in Waremme to participate in the guard of honor at the end of the ceremony. Victim of a knife attack last week, while he was in a service vehicle stopped at a red light in Schaerbeek, the young policeman Thomas Monjoie was from the village of Limont, in the entity Liège from Donceel.

A procession will then take the deceased inspector, under police escort on a motorcycle, to the Limont cemetery, where he will be buried in the strictest family privacy.
