Double Assault Rocks Local Establishment
A local establishment in Svetovrachene became the scene of two violent incidents, leaving two victims in need of medical attention. In the early hours of Sunday, October 20, a celebration descended into chaos when off-duty police officer Ivaylo Galabov found himself the target of a surprise attack.
Unprovoked Assault on Off-Duty Officer
Galabov, a senior officer with the Department “Combating Criminal Crime” at the SDVR, was attending a large gathering at the establishment to celebrate the Kurban of his cousin, Christian, nicknamed Bebo. While enjoying the festivities, Galabov was approached around midnight by Raiko Raykov, a well-known figure in Negovan who works for a prominent security company. Without warning, Raykov struck Galabov in the back of the head.
The incident was captured on security cameras, leaving no doubt about the assailant’s identity. Two of Galabov’s friends, Trajko Trajkov and Dilko Velkov, witnessed the assault and rushed to their friend’s aid.
“We didn’t understand what happened. It was completely unexpected,” Trajkov recounted to reporters.
Following the assault, Galabov required medical attention. A forensic medical certificate revealed swelling of his upper lip, a post-traumatic wound on his right cheek, and a head injury. Doctors also documented clinical evidence of concussion, neck contusion, and edema with hemorrhaging in his left leg.
Silence from Authorities, Statements from the Accused
The SDVR declined requests to comment on the incident involving one of their officers. Raykov’s employer, the security company, maintained that they were unaware of the assault and had not been contacted by law enforcement. They confirmed that Raykov was employed as a driver and was on unpaid leave from October 16 to 25, encompassing the date of the incident.
Raykov himself commented on the case through a media platform, offering his perspective on the events of that night.
Second Violent Incident at the Same Establishment
Tragically, this was not the only violent incident plaguing the establishment that weekend. A little later, another civil servant, Petar Yordanov, became the victim of a brutal beating in a separate room of the restaurant. The 44-year-old sustained injuries to his face and chest.
Law enforcement has launched a pre-trial proceeding to investigate the second assault. Authorities are working to determine if Raykov is connected to both incidents. Yordanov’s medical records document multiple wounds to his face, an open wound inside his mouth, and a contusion on his right cheekbone.
