Within two hours, the police district has had three cases, says a post on the social media X.
Here, we are talking regarding people who are respectively 85, 86 and 91 years old, says head of duty at North Jutland Police Karsten Højrup Kristensen to Ritzau. According to him, these are “skilled and cunning” criminals.
The police do not yet have an overview of the amount involved in the three cases, but the police are investigating it “at full pressure”.
The warden further explains that the victims are cheated by being called by people pretending to be from the bank.
They say that unauthorized withdrawals are being made from one’s account, and in order for them to stop it, they need to use one’s card details and codes. You are then told that someone from the bank will come and collect your payment card.
– Sometimes people are spoken to, and then they give this information because they think they are calling from the bank. And in some of the cases, people also come out to it to have the card delivered.
– It happens regularly, and sometimes thousands of kroner are being defrauded, says Karsten Højrup Kristensen and emphasizes that it is a problem all over the country.
According to the warden, these are “skilled and cunning” criminals, and he calls for the call to be terminated quickly.
– The bank will never call and ask for card and account information over the phone, he says.
North Jutland Police also recommends that you inform your elderly relatives regarding these criminal persons.
