  • A new scam is circulating to obtain personal data from users of some platforms.
  • Police issue warning.

Cybercriminals have found a new way to obtain data from Internet users. This time they are using online marketplaces like tutti.ch, which offer an easy way to buy and sell items.

However, the platforms are also used by scammers who seek to obtain user data. One particularly common scam is the so-called “post-payment scam”, as reported Watson.

This involves a supposed buyer contacting the seller via the platform and pretending to want to process the purchase through a special postal payment service. The seller then receives a link to a fake website pretending to be from Swiss Post.

Credit card data as a target

There, the seller is asked to enter credit card information, even the CVC code, which is normally never required to receive money. Scammers use this information to get the seller’s money and to misuse the credit card information.

The police warn against these scams and recommend always checking links carefully. “Fake websites are often very well made,” the warning reads.

In particular, users should be wary of links that ask them to enter credit card information. “You should never enter your credit card information or account login information to sell something,” tutti.ch emphasizes.

Fraud attempts should definitely be reported to help market operators improve their protection mechanisms.
