Police seize 16 firearms and ammunition in two operations
An investigation into violent deaths in Escuintla led to the seizure of several firearms; Furthermore, in Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Alta Verapaz, another weapon was seized.

During two operations, security forces seized 16 firearms and ammunition in Escuintla and Alta Verapaz, the National Civil Police (PNC) reported this Wednesday, April 3.
Agents from the Criminal Investigation Division (Deic) of the PNC and prosecutors from the Public Ministry (MP) carried out several raids on properties in the San Felipe neighborhood, in the capital of Escuintla, following cases of violent deaths in that department.
During these searches, the authorities did not make any arrests, but seized seven pistols, two rifles and 20 hoppers.
At the moment the details of the investigation and the facts that are part of it have not been released.
In addition, last Tuesday five men who were illegally carrying seven firearms were captured in the village of San Simón, in Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas, Alta Verapaz, PNC sources reported.
According to the PNC, these individuals were detained by residents, who accused them of creating a scandal on public roads and threatening residents of the sector with the weapons they were carrying.
“The detainees are Wilfredo “N”, 23 years old; Daniel “N”, 58 years old; Kemuel “N”, 25 years old; José “N”, 27; and César “N”, 28, from whom seven firearms, three long weapons, and 4 9mm caliber pistols were seized. 195 ammunition and several hoppers,” detailed the PNC.
He added that it is being investigated whether the weapons have been used to commit any criminal act.
The authorities call on the population to report events related to the use of firearms, since the inappropriate use of these constitutes a risk for the population.
