Police seize 132 weapons in the possession of criminals in Malanje – Jornal OPaís

One hundred and 32 firearms of various calibers, in the possession of criminals, were seized last year by the National Police in Malanje, as part of the strategy to reduce violent crimes and guarantee public safety.

The information was revealed by the commander of the National Police in Malanje, João Cariqui, during the provincial event celebrating the 48th anniversary of the Corporation, which was celebrated yesterday, noting that the seizures contributed to the reduction in crimes using firearms, which had been gaining worrying contours in the province.

The officer highlighted the continued engagement of staff in actions aimed at defending the physical integrity of citizens, compliance with the laws in force in the country and reducing crime, which in 2022 amounted to more than 2 thousand cases and the arrest of 140 citizens. Meanwhile, he expressed the willingness of the National Police to continue cooperating with the bodies involved in the administration of justice and to reinforce interaction with the population, with a view to the success of police action. On the other hand, João Cariqui pointed out the prevention of road accidents as another focus of the body in the region, taking into account the increase in cases of road accidents, many of which have recorded deaths.

The event commemorating the 28th of February was preceded by the commissioning of 27 officers, to the positions of subalterns and deputy chiefs, as well as the retirement of 11 officers.

The date was also marked with the delivery of a layette to the first baby born, yesterday, at the Provincial Maternal and Child Hospital.

On February 28, 1976, the People’s Police Corps of Angola (CPPA) was created, which, between 1976 and 1993, underwent several transformations, until it became known as the National Police of Angola (PNA), through decree 20/93 of 11 July, which approved the institution’s new organic statute.
