Two offices in the EU Parliament building in Brussels were searched on Tuesday, the Belgian public prosecutor announced. According to media reports, it is said to be the offices of MPs Andrea Cozzolino and Marc Tarabella, who are allegedly involved in the bribery scandal in the European Parliament. The EU Parliament initially did not comment. The two politicians were expelled from the Social Democratic group months ago as a result of the scandal.
The scandal, which became known in December, is regarding alleged influence on parliamentary decisions by the governments of Qatar and Morocco. The public prosecutor accuses the accused of corruption, money laundering and membership in a criminal organization. Other suspects are the former Vice President of Parliament, Eva Kaili, her partner Francesco Giorgi and the alleged mastermind Antonio Panzeri.
