Ministry of the Interior forces recorded 18 deaths on New Year’s Eve. Eight were registered by the Civil Protection and Fire Service, five were for homicide and five for road accidents
The result is contained in the report presented by Commissioner Orlando Bernardo, spokesman for the “Okuliandja operation”, highlighting that the cases took place in the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Benguela and Cuando Cubango. Of the five homicide crimes recorded, there was a reduction of four cases compared to the same period of the previous year (2022), of which four were resolved with four arrested.
“Regarding the ways in which the crimes were committed, three were committed with sharp weapons (knife, machete and bottle fragment) and two with a blunt object (stick), whose crimes were committed by people close to the victims, and two of them by criminals ”, he pointed out, highlighting that, of the crimes committed, 60% of them were committed by people close to the victims (neighbors and friends) and in circumstances that escape police surveillance.
During New Year’s Eve, the National Police of Angola detained a total of 113 citizens. The detainees are accused of committing common crimes, the number of which increased by 19 detainees compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, in relation to the assessment of public security, during the period under analysis, 154 crimes were recorded, three fewer compared to the same period of the previous year, of which 100 of these crimes were clarified by the Police Forces and, among these crimes, they ended up being arrested a total of 100 elements.
“The provinces with the highest crime rate were the provinces of Luanda, with 35 cases, which incidentally recorded a reduction of 24 crimes; Cuanza-Norte, with 12 cases, having registered an increase of five crimes; Huambo, with 11 cases, with an increase of five cases; Malanje, with nine cases and an increase of five crimes”, said the spokesperson. The Police also seized nine vehicles for violating the Highway Code in the provinces of Huíla, Benguela and Uíge.
54 motorcycles were also seized as a result of various infractions of the Highway Code by drivers, in the provinces of Benguela, Uíge, Cuando Cubango, Lunda-Norte, Huíla and Cunene, as well as 4,215 liters of fuel (gasoline) in the provinces from Zaire and Uíge.
