Police prevented murder and suicide in Innsbruck

During a police operation in Innsbruck, a 40-year-old wanted to throw himself from the 13th floor with his two-year-old child. The police, who had originally been alerted by the man’s wife regarding domestic violence, were able to prevent this.

Dramatic scenes took place on Friday night in a high-rise building in Innsbruck’s Pradl district. As the police announced on Saturday followingnoon, a 40-year-old man with his two-year-old child wanted to throw himself out of the window on the 13th floor during a eviction from the marital home. The police officers were able to stop the crime at the last second.

Shortly following 10 p.m., the officials were alerted by the wife, a 38-year-old Afghan citizen, to domestic violence. Her husband should therefore be expelled from the apartment according to the provisions of the Security Police Act and given a ban on approaching him. In the course of the official act, the 40-year-old suddenly grabbed their two-year-old child, opened a window and, according to the police, wanted to throw himself from the 13th floor together with him.

The officers managed to snatch the child from the man and bring it to safety. According to the police, there were violent acts of resistance as a result, in which both the 40-year-old man and two police officers were injured. The man was arrested, an interrogation might not yet be carried out. The investigations into suspected attempted murder, resistance to state authority and various violent crimes once morest the wife are being conducted by the Tyrolean State Criminal Police Office.
