A 9-year-old child was overpowered and held to the ground by police on Tuesday followingnoon at a primary school for special education in Nalinnes, the police zone said on Wednesday evening. Germinalt intervened on site confirming information from Sudinfo. A report was drawn up for the King’s prosecutor of Charleroi.

A team from the police zone Germinalt was asked by the management of the Nalinnes primary school for special education on Tuesday followingnoon to calm down a 9-year-old child who was being difficult. The scene, filmed by the minor’s mother, shows a policeman busy controlling the child on the ground. “The management got it under control at first, before calling on our services. We don’t enter schools like that. The child was difficult and the mother did not respond to calls from the school”recalled Alain Bal, head of the Germinalt police zone.

The school version

We met this Thursday morning Maïté Milauvre, the acting director of the specialized school to ask her for her version of the facts that took place within the premises of the establishment for which she is responsible. “During the midday recess, between 1:15 p.m. and 1:45 p.m., there was an altercation between two children. The supervisors, my colleagues who were three in number, intervened and separated the two children“.

When our journalist asks the director to specify the reason for which she called the police, Ms. Milauvre indicates “It was the last resort, the last solution I might find given the escalation and escalation of the behavior of the student. Before that, he tried to flee, to leave the school in climbing the various gates. He also climbed a tree in an attempt to flee, he wandered in the corridors, he tried to destroy the equipment, to hit the personnel who followed him to avoid that they put themselves in danger, which he did in spite of everything. He endangered the other staff members as well as the children, several of us intervened, the educator, the establishment psychologist, the educational coordinator and myself, even a school worker came to help us to control the behavior of this child who was unmanageable, so we decided to call the police following having repeatedly tried to contact the mother of the child, without success. which, the only solution was for us to go to the Police”. (Also listen to the words of the acting director in the audio-interview below)

According to our colleagues from Sudinfo, a complaint was filed by the mother. Proceedings once morest the latter are not excluded by the police zone. “A report was drawn up for the Charleroi King’s prosecutor. The minor’s mother decided to film the scene and do what is called bashing while the police simply did their job and did their best to preserve the safety of both the management at the origin of the call and the child. With this video, there is a strong risk of attacking the police, but the mother will also have to assume her responsibilities. We will explain in particular that there were calls and she did not intervene immediately […]. If our colleagues are attacked, we will defend them”confirmed the chief of staff.

The reaction of the prosecution

Contacted by the editorial staff of RTBF on Thursday morning, the Charleroi prosecution did not want to speak. Thursday followingnoon, the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office confirmed the opening of a report for indiscipline following the behavior of the child, specifying “It is quite problematic behavior and it is likely to be referred to youth services to possibly take care of the child and his behavior”.
