Several police zones in Walloon Brabant, two dog handlers and the federal police helicopter were mobilized all day Sunday to intercept a suspect departing from Pécrot, in the entity of Grez-Doiceau, a-t- we learned on Monday from the Walloon Brabant prosecutor’s office.
While a flea market was held in rue Arthur Snaps, in Pécrot, the police in the Brabant Ardennes area were informed of the presence of a car, Sunday morning around 6 a.m., on the road yet closed to traffic.
It quickly turned out that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Nivelles on Tuesday August 1st.
A new call was received by the police on Sunday around 10 a.m., reporting attempts to break into four homes in the neighborhood.
With the precise description of a suspect, the police called in reinforcements from the Orne-Thyle, Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, Wavre and Voer en Dijle areas.
The intervention of two dog handlers and a federal police helicopter was also required.
The suspect, a 29-year-old man from Charleroi, was arrested Sunday evening around 7 p.m.
It will be up to the investigation to determine the potential links between the apprehended individual, the theft of the car and the attempted burglary.
