2023-11-02 19:51:00

Thursday around 4:30 p.m., a man living on rue de Lurot in Mettet had to be admitted to the psychiatric unit of a specialized hospital via a private ambulance. The paramedics who arrived on site to take him away were warned by local residents regarding the danger of the individual.

Progressing slowly, without taking too many risks, the paramedics heard gunshots coming from the home of the person involved. They immediately turned around and notified the police and other emergency responders. Firefighters from the Val de Sambre area were requested and put on standby on Place Joseph Meunier with an ambulance, a logistics vehicle as well as the Auvelais SMUR. Police officers from the Entre-Sambre and Meuse area, assisted by police forces from the Châtelet area, established a security perimeter around the scene. The area was cordoned off. Around 6:15 p.m., special intervention forces were expected on the square in order to be able to control the man holed up in his home.

Shortly following 9 p.m., the man was subdued by the police. He was taken to the police station.
