The level of physical fitness and general health of the students of the Police Academy, who showed up last Monday morning, during their graduation ceremony, is impressive and reassuring. Age?
Fortunately, I was present at this celebration and saw the various performances performed by these graduates, along with the students of the rest of the academic teams at the Academy, directly from the booth where President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, senior statesmen, and many senior media professionals were present.
In this celebration, there were many scenes, but today I will stop at a specific scene, which is the practice of sports and its impact on the health of individuals and, consequently, the whole society.
The main feature is that the participants in the performances that accompanied the celebration were enjoying high physical fitness and excellent general health, and this was illustrated through the various segments they performed from the beginning of cycling to the end of passing very difficult jumping obstacles through the shows of physical strength, self-defense, karate and kung fu. Kickboxing, shooting, climbing, securing public figures and parkour. What was most striking was the appearance of many of the female graduates at a very high level during combat performances, private security missions and shooting, not to mention their high physical fitness.
The pinnacle of this performance was what one of the graduates did when he managed to jump past a tank and thirty young men hoisting spears and standing in two opposite rows. This young man won everyone’s applause, led by President El-Sisi and Minister of Interior Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq.
Interest in sports and public health is one of the most important features of developed countries, and it gives clear indications of prevention and the decline of diseases in the future. And the matter no longer needs to be pampered or proven. Exercising, even if it is just regular walking, can change a person’s life, and spare him many diseases. And we remember that the heavenly religions exhort this, including hadiths such as: “A strong believer is better than a weak believer and in every good.” The Commander of the Faithful Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, called us to teach our children swimming, archery and horse riding: “Teach your children swimming, archery and horse riding.”
That the police officer enjoy public health, and practice any kind of sport, that will enable him to perform his work better, and make him excel in any clash with outlaws, if only public health is invoked.
The question that occupies my mind is, why do some police officers not maintain this level throughout their tenure of service?
I know and realize that most other professions do not practice any kind of sports from the ground up, and when they get old and sit at desks, they gain weight and are exposed to multiple diseases, especially diabetes and heart diseases, but it is assumed that the matter is completely different with police officers, where there is an absolute necessity to maintain exercise as a An important cornerstone in the practice of work, especially if it is in the field.
I remember that President El-Sisi spoke more than once years ago regarding the necessity for everyone to exercise, and we saw him riding a bike on more than one occasion, especially in Sharm El-Sheikh and Alexandria, and I also remember that he called on senior officials not to gain weight.
Some may see this topic as marginal, and others may say: Have all our problems ended until we talked regarding the importance of exercising?! The answer is simply that without practicing sports and without enjoying the minimum level of public health, there is no real future for any person or any nation and he will live sick and dependent on society.
I hope, of course, that all clubs, youth centers, and public and private squares will be able to attract and attract all young people to practice sports. He will ensure that he will not suffer from serious diseases, and will save himself time, effort and money, and he will find himself away from drugs of all kinds.
All the best wishes for the new graduates to succeed and fulfill their mission in enforcing the law and treating people humanely, as President El-Sisi said.
