Posing as children, these self-styled “pedophile hunters” contact pedophiles online, often exchanging pornographic material with them and proposing to meet them.
“On the first date, the group confronts or threatens the sexual predators, attacks them or blackmails them,” said Jakub Winchalek, a police spokesman, in a press release.
“They take videos of their encounter and then upload them to social media,” he added.
The press representative clarified that the Czech police are investigating this case in cooperation with the European police Europol. He added that similar groups have been identified across Europe.
“These groups of pedophile hunters present themselves as the self-proclaimed protectors of society and administer justice on their own,” Vinchalek said.
He added that police are investigating these groups for various crimes, including theft and causing bodily harm.
