Police intervention in an Ibis hotel in the center of Brussels: it was a false bomb threat

A vast police operation was carried out this Wednesday around 10 a.m. in the Ibis hotel on rue Joseph Plateau in Brussels. Hotel guests had to be evacuated.

A man on the third floor of the hotel said he intended “to shoot everyone”. At least part of the hotel was then evacuated and the special police intervention units arrived on the scene, in the event that this individual was armed. This was ultimately not the case.

The suspect was eventually brought under control. The security perimeter was lifted and the operation was over by 2 p.m.

“Police services responded to the Ibis Hotel in connection with what turned out to be a false bomb threat. Police services responded and the alleged perpetrator, a 31-year-old man , was deprived of his liberty and taken for a hearing. The investigation is continuing and the Brussels public prosecutor’s office will not make any further comments”, explains the spokesperson for the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.
