The Scouts of Zottegem organized their Totem evening in the village hall of the municipality of East Flanders this Saturday evening. But it did not end in the good atmosphere hoped for.
At the end of the festivities, the situation completely degenerated when a “regarding fifteen revelers attacked the security guards of the room”raconte le commissaire de police de la zone Zottegem/Herzele/Sint-Lievens-Houtem, Joke De Geyter, auprès du The newspapaer. A patrol intervened at the request of security, once there the protagonists also attacked the police.
”Sunday morning around 4.30 a.m., the situation in the parking lot of the Bevegemse Vijvers party hall got completely out of control”. So much so that the first police officers on the spot had to call for reinforcements.
Result: five officers were taken to hospital and were rendered incapacitated for work. Among the rioters, five people, all adults, were arrested, three judicially and two administratively. They will be questioned this Sunday followingnoon.
“Our party was already over”
The Zottegem Scouts unit clears itself of the fight. “Our party had already been over for half an hour when things suddenly took a turn for the worse in the parking lot”, said Wouter Monsaert, party manager, to our Flemish colleagues. “About 15 hotheads had a run-in with security. The doors to the party hall were already closed at that time. Nobody among the Zottegem Scouts was involved in the fight either”.
