Police detain Rebeca Garcia in Madrid

Venezuelan Rebeca García, accused of being a serial harasser of women, was detained by the National Police on Thursday followingnoon in Madrid, Spain. It was revealed that her brother Fran García was with her.

According to sources from El País, the brothers, who are being investigated and accused by the Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office of harassing dozens of women, were in a supermarket when someone recognised them and alerted the police. A police patrol showed up at the establishment and asked them for some identification, but as they did not have any, they were taken to a police station.

The police have taken the woman and her brother to the police station because they had no identification and will release them in the next few hours as there is no extradition request from the Venezuelan authorities.

The prosecutor appointed by the Constituent Assembly, Tarek William Saab, stated on the social network X that he would ask Spain for the arrest and extradition of the brothers. However, the Spanish authorities have not received any request, either through judicial or diplomatic channels. For this reason, the police will be forced to release the brothers in the next few hours.

The case of Rebeca García gained great notoriety last week because a woman spoke out regarding the harassment and violence she received from this woman.

A number of women who claimed to have experienced the same situation joined her story. They provided screenshots of WhatsApp and terrifying photographs.

He dedicated a 560-page book to one of his victims. He stalked them and showed up at their homes and workplaces.

Seeing the stir generated on social media, William Saab said that he would act and that he would give the utmost attention to it. However, the victims have been very upset because they have reported the harassment at least since 2019, but in court they were told, according to their testimony, that they might not do anything, since the perpetrator was a woman.

The absence of an international arrest warrant clashes with the statements of the head of the Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office, who said that Interpol had issued a red alert for the arrest of both fugitives.
