The police, together with firefighters, inspectors from the Fisheries and Conservation Department and the Society for the Protection of Animals, arrived at the scene to rescue the cats and arrested a 43-year-old female resident surnamed Ye on suspicion of cruelty to animals.

In response to this newspaper’s inquiry, the police said that they received reports from nearby residents this morning that a unit at No. 132 Fuk Wah Street had been flooded and that someone was suspected of fainting. After the police arrived at the scene, the firemen broke into the house and found 14 cats in the house, including British shorthair cats and Tang cats, adult cats and kittens. After preliminary investigation, the cats in this batch were not life-threatening, but the unit did not have enough water and food, and the hygienic environment was poor. The batch of cats has been seized by the Fisheries and Conservation Department and the Love Association.

After further investigation, the police arrested a 43-year-old female resident surnamed Ye on suspicion of cruelty to animals. She is currently being detained for investigation. The case is being followed up by the third team of the Criminal Investigation Team of the Sham Shui Po District.
