police confirm ‘false alarm’ over report of ‘body’, search continues

Peruvian police, following arriving on the scene, confirmed that the report of the “lifeless body” found in a ravine in the Colca Valley turned out to be a “false alarm”, Peruvian media report The owl and The Republic. The search continues to find the Brussels tourist Natacha de Crombrugghe, 28.

According to information published Monday evening in many Peruvian media, one of the four groups of mountaineers responsible for looking for Natacha de Crombrugghe, who disappeared three weeks ago while carrying out a solo trek in the Andean highlands, had spotted “a body” in a ravine in an area called Tapay, using a drone.

no body

The police went to the scene to check and carry out expertise but it turned out to be a “false alarm” because the discovery of the rescuers was not ultimately a body, explains The Republic.

The search to find the missing Brussels woman is therefore continuing.

Natacha de Crombrugghe has been missing in Peru since January 23. She had left a backpack in her hotel room before leaving early in the morning of January 24 for the Colca Canyon.

The rescuers have traveled in vain 90% of the hiking trails which extend over the western part of the Colca Valley, between Cabanaconde and the village of Sangalle, nicknamed “the oasis” and which serves as a refuge for trekkers. Before leaving the hotel, the young woman had indicated that she wanted to go there.
