Police Commander ordered relief and investigation of uniformed officers in Canindeyú

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The commander of the National Police, Carlos Benítez, announced that he ordered the survey of the police personnel operating in the area where a diary with handwritten documents referring to alleged bribe payments to agents of the National Anti-Drug Secretariat and the National Police was found. He said that he also ordered an investigation by Internal Affairs and Criminal Investigation and that all the data collected will be made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding purposes.

The top official of the National Police said that the personnel operating in that area were relieved, as well as the personnel working in the sites mentioned in the notebook sheet.

He said that they took the case seriously, considering that it is a generic matter and no police authority was explicitly mentioned in the sheet. At this point, he said that Intelligence is mentioned, which has several units within the structure and the police institution also has Intelligence, as well as several agencies.

He clarified that the decision was taken without having a value judgment or something objective to accuse the staff and keep them in our sights, “but we did it by filtering those staff, so that the investigation can be clear, transparent and objective, and so that it is not thought that there may be pressure or interference from the people who may be investigated.”

The National Police commander reiterated that he ordered the intervention of Internal Affairs and Criminal Investigation of the National Police and that everything obtained in the investigation carried out by the two units will be made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding purposes.
