Police are looking for several people after a stabbing in Trondheim – man critically injured

One man has already been arrested and charged in the case, but the police believe more people may be involved.

The police initially stated that they were looking for a further two other people, but in an updated press release on Saturday they say that they are looking for more without specifying how many are involved.

– We emphasize that we do not consider these people to be dangerous, but we want to come into contact with them. We will not say anything more regarding what role they have had in the incident, says police attorney Anne Haave to NTB.

A man in his mid-20s is critically injured following being stabbed, but is in a stable condition. The police arrested a man in his early 20s following a short time. He is charged with attempted murder or complicity in attempted murder.

Caught on video

The incident took place in one of the busiest bar and restaurant streets in Midtbyen in Trondheim. There were many people on their way home from the city when the violent incident took place. The police believe they have formed a good picture of what happened following speaking to many witnesses.

– We also have parts of the incident on video, says Haave, but will not say whether the actual stabbing was also captured by the cameras.

Both the victim and the man who has been arrested are known to the police from earlier in connection with criminal cases, states the police attorney. She will not be more specific regarding the types of cases or the relationship between the two.

– Stabbed in the chest

It was at 2 o’clock that passers-by found the man lying on the pavement in Olav Trygvassons gate with serious injuries to his chest. Volunteers gave him life-saving first aid before the ambulance arrived.

The man was then taken to St. Olav’s hospital, where his condition on Saturday morning was described as serious and unclear. On Saturday followingnoon, the police stated that the condition was critical.

The police arrested a man shortly followingwards right outside the restaurant row on Solsiden in Nedre Elvehavn, writes Adresseavisen. A knife was found near him, and the injuries to the victim were also compatible with stab wounds, task leader Marie Fossen told the newspaper.

Lots of people in the area

The accused man is not injured. He was arrested following he initially refused to comply with the police’s orders, according to the task leader. However, he surrendered voluntarily when the police said they would use stun guns if he did not obey.

The man did not want to be questioned, according to the police. He has been in contact with his appointed defender, lawyer Kolbjørn Lium. NTB has not been able to get a comment on how the arrested person responds to the charge.

The police will present him for remand in Trøndelag district court on Sunday. The prison meeting begins at 11 a.m.

Asking witnesses to get in touch

There were many witnesses nearby, and the police have already conducted a number of interviews. There may still be many people sitting on information that is not known, and the police are asking people to get in touch.

The fact that there were so many people in the area when the report came in also made the situation more challenging for the police.

– It is unclear and difficult for us to map what has happened, how many people are involved and how many are injured. This is the night of Saturday, people are drunk and then it is more difficult to get clarity on what people have seen, said task leader Marie Fossen to Adresseavisen.
