French pole vaulter Margot Chevrier injured her leg when she fell next to the mat on Saturday at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow and was rushed to a hospital on a stretcher.

After passing 4.55 meters on her third attempt, Margot Chevrier attempted 5.65 meters but fell back into the pit, the place where athletes position the pole at the time of the push-off, in front of the mat. The 24-year-old French pole vaulter did not get up and was evacuated from the vault on a stretcher, her left leg immobilized. Visibly in great pain, she had an oxygen tank to help her breathe.

Fear of an open fracture

She was rushed to hospital with a doctor from the French Athletics Federation, said an FFA press manager. Her parents were there and followed her there. No additional information has been provided at the moment but AFP images appear to show an open fracture in the left ankle.

French number 1 in the pole vault this winter, Margot Chevrier was aiming for the minimums for the Olympic Games (4.73 m). She jumped 4.66 meters this winter.
