Poland “urgently” summons the Ukrainian ambassador in protest against Zelensky’s statements

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs “urgently” summoned the Ukrainian ambassador in Warsaw to convey its “strong protest” over President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s comments at the UN General Assembly, according to the Ministry in a statement released this Wednesday.

In his remarks before the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Zelenskiy said that “it is alarming to see how some in Europe, some of our friends in Europe, play solidarity in a political theater, making a thriller out of the grain,” adding that “they may seem to be playing their own role, but in reality they are helping to set the stage for an actor from Moscow.”

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski told Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Zvaryc that Zelensky’s “thesis is false in relation to Poland and, moreover, especially unauthorized in relation to our country, which has been supporting Ukraine since the first days of the war.”

Jablonski “pointed out that pressuring Poland in multilateral forums or sending complaints to international courts are not appropriate methods to resolve disputes between our countries,” the ministry statement said.

He also “underlined that these actions will not be effective against Poland, because the measures taken by the Polish government to defend the interests of Polish farmers are consistent with national, EU and international legislation.”

Jablonski “expressed concern about the recent public message of the highest representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, which imposes a unilateral perspective on the multidimensional problem of the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to neighboring countries.”

Jablonski said he hopes that “both the policy pursued by the Ukrainian authorities and their public communication reflect the real nature of Polish-Ukrainian relations, both current and historical,” and that the Ukrainian side takes into account “the unprecedented help provided by Poland and the Poles to the Ukrainian population and the Ukrainian State.”
