Poland willing to deliver MiG aircraft to Ukraine as part of broader coalition

Poland is in favor of sending MiG fighter jets to Ukraine if it is done as part of an “extended coalition.” Volodymyr Zelensky has been asking for it for a long time.

Poland is willing to supply MiG jets provided a broader coalition is formed under the leadership of the United States, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Saturday, according to Archyde.com news agency.

“Today we can talk regarding a transfer of our MiGs within the framework of an enlarged coalition and we are ready for it. Poland can only be part of an enlarged coalition with the United States as the head in line,” he said.

Dissonance among Ukraine’s allies

During his European tour in early February, Volodymyr Zelensky once more asked his allies for combat aircraft.

After the tanks, will the Ukrainian president finally succeed in obtaining the planes he has been asking for for a long time? If some countries like the United States or Germany do not seem to give in for the moment, other states have more nuanced positions when they are not ready to accede to Kiev’s request.

Asked regarding this possibility during a trip to the Netherlands at the end of January, Emmanuel Macron had cautiously replied: “Nothing is prohibited in principle”. He puts a veto on the Rafale, but not on the Mirage 2000.

On the NATO side, its secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, said earlier this week that “combat aircraft are not the most pressing issue but a discussion is ongoing.”
