On October 6th, 2024 at around 4:00 a.m., the operations control center of the Neubrandenburg police headquarters was informed of a fire on Langen Strasse in Malchin. When the first rescue workers and police officers arrived, a converted stable was already fully engulfed in flames. Despite immediate extinguishing measures, the fire spread to the roof structure of the terraced house. The volunteer fire departments from Basedow, Gielow, Malchin, Remplin and Stavenhagen were deployed with a total of 80 comrades. It was only after several hours that the fire was completely extinguished. There were no people in the converted stable at the time of the fire. The residents of the terraced house, a German couple, each aged 63, were able to leave their home unharmed and were initially accommodated elsewhere. After extinguishing work was completed, the criminal police began investigating the cause of the fire. An investigation is currently underway on suspicion of negligent arson. The material damage is currently estimated at around 500,000 euros.
