Completing Pokémon Go’s final Level Study offers great rewards…unless you’re the unluckiest trainer in the game.
Millions of trainers tirelessly seek to level up in Pokémon Go, trying to reach the milestones necessary to participate in Special Studies which provide access to numerous rewards.
But the road is long, and reaching level 50 is a feat that takes years to accomplish, and requires unwavering determination.
But what happens when the final reward from the last Special Study is just a huge disappointment? Here’s what happened to a Pokémon Go player, who actually “finished Pokémon Go” to receive a mediocre reward.

This story is that of Reddit user ‘9DAN2’who shared his experience with the community on December 12, 2023.
9DAN2 posted a screenshot in the Pokémon Go subreddit, with a short description of his mishap: “Yesterday I completed Special Research level 50 and technically ‘completed Pokémon Go’. My reward, the Mewtwo with the worst possible IVs”.

On the screenshots, we can actually see the level 50 Study rewards screen, but also the Mewtwo obtained by our player. A Mewtwo with disastrous IVs.
Players quickly sympathized with 9DAN2’s suffering. One of them said: “They should at least give you a shiny.” Another player added: “This is the biggest challenge in the game at the moment. You should get something amazing.” While one user suggested: “Either a guaranteed shiny, or guaranteed excellent to perfect IVs.”

Some users have also complained regarding the game’s unfair random system, which leads to somewhat disappointing rewards. One of them pointed out: “Everything is random. Unfortunately, these games are like gachas. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you waste your time grinding for nothing.”
Ultimately, 9DAN2 invested a lot of time and effort into Pokémon Go, and even though the 100,000 Stardust, 10 XL Candies, and Avatar Pose are often considered paltry rewards for completing the last Special Study, they ultimately seem exceptional compared to an encounter with an ordinary Mewtwo.
