Poet and translator Duong Tuong, whose real name is Tran Duong Tuong, was born in 1932, used to work as a reporter at the Vietnam News Agency, as a translator at the American Empire’s War Crimes Investigation Committee in Vietnam. and retired in 1979.

Poet Duong Tuong attended primary school in Nam Dinh. After that, he returned to Hanoi to continue his secondary education until the August Revolution broke out. He dropped out of school and went to work as a liaison for the Viet Minh in Vinh Yen. He then joined the army in 1949.
In 1955, Duong Tuong was discharged from the army and returned to Hanoi to live. From 1955 to the mid-1960s, Duong Tuong was a reporter for the Van Commune Office of the Vietnam News Agency. Since 1967, he has worked as a translator at the US imperialist war crimes investigation commission in Vietnam. He retired in 1979.
Translator Duong Tuong has taught himself French and English and started translating since 1960. His massive translation fortune includes more than 50 works from many literatures such as English, French, American, and Russian. , Germany, Japan, Norway… Many famous works translated by him have conquered many generations of readers such as: Gone with the Wind, Roots, Wuthering Heights, Letter from an Unknown Woman, Kafka by the Sea, The Road of Flandres, Lolita, In Search of Lost Time…
In 2020, translator Duong Tuong released an English translation Kieu story (Nguyen Du) whose name is Kieu in Duong Tuong’s version (Published by Nha Nam and World Publishing House), published in April 2020. This work is the result of his hard work for two years looking through a magnifying glass to type each word.
