Under the title “KHYZHA”, the designer and architect Daria Plaksyuk presented 15 breathtaking looks in the Kronprinzenpalais, which the more than 200 guests present at the runway presentation were honored with enthusiastic applause.
The combination of Ukrainian architecture and fashion
PODYH was founded in 2020 by the trained architect and embodies the spirit of different architectural styles. The designer finds her inspiration in her homeland, Ukraine, and places great value on the cultural richness and diverse talent of her people. As a Ukrainian designer, Daria Plaksyuk feels deep pride in sharing her country’s heritage with the world through fashion.
The spring/summer 2024 collection, dubbed KHYZHA, continues the exploration of Ukrainian architecture and its building styles. The name of the collection comes from the Ukrainian term meaning “dwelling house”. The collection name refers to traditional houses of the Lemks, an ethnic group of the Carpathian region. It interprets the architectural heritage as well as the daily life of the Carpathians in a modern and creative way. PODYH captures the simplicity and clarity of shapes and lines that characterize the buildings of this region, creating a link between centuries-old traditions and the present.
The collection embodies the forms of various traditional structures such as wooden tower-like churches, windmills and dwelling houses, as well as architectural and engineered building methods employed by the masters. She also integrates decorative motifs and ornaments that can be found in the architecture and folklore embroidery of the Carpathian people.
