The Indonesian Rowing Sports Association (PB PODSI) will soon prepare its best rowing athletes for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, United States, said Deputy Chairman III of the PODSI Executive Board Budiman Setiawan.

“Because the qualifications start in 2027,” said Budiman on the sidelines of the beach rowing final in Aceh Besar Regency, Wednesday (18/9), as reported by Antara.

According to Budiman, after the 2024 PON, athletes will conduct a long-term national training camp as rowing preparation for the 2028 Olympics.

The search for talented athletes will continue to be monitored from PON 2024, SEA Games, Asian Games to the 2028 Pre-Olympics.

However, PODSI does not yet know for sure whether the rowing sport, especially the beach rowing event, will be contested or not in the upcoming SEA Games.

“However, the rowing beach sprint number will definitely be contested at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics,” he said.

The technical delegate for beach rowing for the 2024 PON said that in general there are 15 rowing events being competed in the 2028 Olympics, including 12 classic rowing events and the remaining three beach sprint events.

PODSI will also thoroughly evaluate the athletes who are prepared to compete in the 2028 Olympics because it is possible that PB PODSI will move athletes from classic rowing to beach sprint rowing.

“So if there are athletes who are good at classic rowing, we can move them here (rowing beach sprint),” he said.

On the other hand, athletes who perform well in beach sprint rowing have the opportunity to move to classic rowing, so that Indonesia can bring home a medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. (Z-6)
