In this second episode of our new podcast “Democracy! Democracy!” on the state of health of the United States, Jordan Davis immerses us in the very harsh climate of the hearings of Ketanji Brown Jackson before the Senate a few days ago.
Thanks to him, we learn as much regarding this judge, the first African-American woman elected on April 7 to the Supreme Court, who will go down in the history books, as regarding the political climate in the United States so divided at the moment.
The more than 20 hours of hearings by Ketanji Brown Jackson will remain an important sequence in recent years in the United States as the new judge has had to come under attack from Republican senators once morest her person, her professional commitment, his faith and even once morest his identity.
An election with high symbolic significance for many African-American women, some of whom drove up to 11 hours to be in the Senate on D-Day.
It was totally worth the whole trip! To show her that her sisters were by her side in the most important moment of her life. And then as a black woman, to be able to tell myself that one of my sisters had reached this level! A qualified, brilliant woman. She did not stoop to their level. She was brave in this fight
On April 7, the Senate voted 53 to 47 in favor of Ketanji Brown Jackson. All Democrats plus three Republicans. But what influence will Ketanji Brown Jacskon really have on the Supreme Court on the balance of a body that has become very conservative since President Trump? What will be his future fights?
