PMU – Arrival of the January 1st quinté in Vincennes: Balsamine Font, winner of the first event of the year

Winning quintet: 13 – 11 – 1 – 8 – 3

In the world of harness racing, some races are designated as “European”. These prestigious competitions welcome horses from countries beyond France’s borders. The inaugural quinté of the new year showcased Italian prowess, with Balsamine Font (no. 13) securing a triumphant victory. Despite starting from the second row behind the starting gate, this Italian champion conquered the 2,100-meter Vincennes track with remarkable speed.

Guiding Balsamine Font to this victory, Björn Goop‘s masterful strategy saw the horse surge ahead navigating the final turn. The horse’s determination was evident until the finish line. Though valiant, the strongly favored Gaspar de Brion (no. 1) couldn’t overtake Usain Töll (no. 11), which set a blistering early pace.

Claiming positions behind the leading trio, Hades by Vandel (no. 8), another competitor trained internationally but raised in France, secured fourth place. This success came at the cost of Gina Mearas (no. 3), whose run was hindered by unfavorable circumstances, an unusual outcome considering the driving expertise of Franck Nivard.
